UCI Anteaters and Anteater Ballpark

As some of you may know, I attend UC Irvine here in glorious Southern California.  Fewer of you probably know that UCI’s baseball team is really freakin’ good.  Like, ranked #1 in the country as of the 20th of April.  What you may not know is that students get in free to their games and, when I have time, I attend their games.  Go EATER NATION!

This will be really quick:  The Anteaters played the Oregon Ducks yesterday and today and I went to (parts of) both games.  What can I say?  I have class!  So, no BP for me… and it wouldn’t really matter because there’s nowhere to stand in home run territory and you can’t get close to the field where there isn’t a net in front of you.  I go anyway… and I bring my glove anyway… just in case.

Long story short… I snagged 4 baseballs in 2 games!  They have a nice Big West stamp on them… I won’t count them in my official collection but it’s still cool to have them.

The facilities are really nice here at UCI, too… here’s a photo, courtesy of the folks who designed http://www.ucirvinesports.com:

anteater ballpark.jpgSee the netting?  Blargh!  It extends alllll the way down to right field and to the edge of the bleachers just past third base… which is the edge of where non-players can go.  Also, see the parking structure on the right of the photo?  That’s where I park my car for classes and my office work.  There’s a big 438 painted on the side of it… nobody’s ever hit on that far at this park, at least not that I’ve heard of.

I will be at the Angels/Tigers matchup tomorrow, then at Dodger Stadium on May 2nd.  Hopin’ to keep my snaggin’ streak alive… and maybe the Angels will WIN a game here sometime.  Yeesh!

I just read about the #1 ranking for UCI. Good stuff. My daughter wants to go there, but we’re not sure yet. Cool post. Later…

Do you have an extra 2009 UCI Baseball ticket stub to trade for my extra 2009 San Diego State Baseball full ticket from Friday, April 24, 2009? Stephen Strasburg pitched this game, struck out 14 and set SDSU single-season and career strikeout records. Let me know if your interested in a trade!
